Novar Patrick McDonald

Mr. McDonald is a commercial attorney and a partner at Hart, Muirhead, Fatta. He is currently a Director of Independent Radio Company Limited and has served as a Director of several companies in the local financial sector and of state agencies and companies.  He is a member of the Commercial Law Committee of the Jamaican Bar Association and an Associate Tutor at the Norman Manley Law School.

Admitted to practice in Jamaica in 1993, he was educated at the University of the West Indies and the Norman Manley Law School. He first joined Myers, Fletcher & Gordon as an associate, where he specialized in commercial litigation.

He left the private bar in 1999 and entered the public sector, joining FINSAC Limited, an agency under the Ministry of Finance & Planning set up by the Government to restructure the local financial sector. While at FINSAC, he worked in a supporting role to the Managing Director and headed a department which had responsibility for, inter alia, monitoring the process of rehabilitation of local financial institutions, as well as concluding the contractual arrangements for the sale of the Government's controlling stake in Jamaica's largest life insurer and two of its largest commercial banks.

On the substantial conclusion of FINSAC's divestment and rehabilitation programme, he joined Hart, Muirhead, Fatta in 2002 September, where his main practice areas are company law, securities, financial services, mergers and acquisitions, and debt and equity capital market transactions.

He has a keen interest in corporate governance and serves on the Corporate Governance Committee of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica, the Best Practices Awards Committee of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, and conducts training in corporate governance. He has consistently been named as one of the leading commercial attorneys in Jamaica by both Chambers Global and the International Financial Law Review.
